Michael Fogelberg wanted to do something new. So he moved to Brussels, Belgium in 1992. After seeing this booming business in the United States, he took the initiative to study the possibility of self-storage business in Europe. Michael established contact with Shurgard Storage Centers Inc. in Seattle and established a partnership in 1994. This led to a joint venture so Shurgard could establish in Europe. Prior to this, Shurgards only operated in the United States.
Michael's role in the company was to manage the development of the Shurgard in Belgium. In 1997, Micahel became responsible for the construction of the facilities in Scandinavia so he moved to Sweden. Later Michael went to Denmark and started the business there in 2001 and became the managing director of Sweden and Denmark.
Michael left Shurgard in 2004/2005 and Grana International sold its shares of the company to Shurgard in 2004.
Michael Fogelberg launches SelStor
Michael founded the Swedish self-storage developer and operator SelStor AB in 2007. Michael served as the company's managing director there and developed 10 self-service warehouses in Stockholm and surrounding areas.
SelStor was later in 2012 sold to Pelican Self Storage and Micahel left it in 2013.
The new thinking business 24Storage
Shortly after he left SelStor Michael wanted to start a new company. But this time he wanted something no one seen before, so he started 24Storage. An innovative and new thinking self storage company that would take the industry by storm. Now 24Storage has over 25 facilities in Sweden.
Michaels other positions
Michael was also one of the founders of the Federation of Self Storage in Europe (FEDESSA) and is a board member, President, Vice President (www.fedessa.org) as well as the Self Storage Association Sweden (SSAS), and has been the Chairman from 2006 till 2021. (www.ssasweden.com).
